Orthopaedic mattresses - what do they do?

Many people expect orthopaedic mattresses to provide a healthier, more restful sleep. Those who are looking for such a mattress usually have back problems or a slipped disc. Often, however, it is not the mattress alone that is to blame for the fact that we wake up with a sore back and feel as if we have been exhausted all day. Lack of exercise can play a big role in the pain. Especially if the torso is not strong enough. But what can orthopaedic mattresses do to improve the quality of sleep for back problems?

The term "orthopaedic mattress" describes a bed base that is designed to support the spine in a healthy, natural position. This means that the spine lies straight without becoming curved or round. These phenomena are attributed to either a mattress that is too hard or too soft.

Orthopaedic mattress: Can I get a healthy night's sleep?

If you already suffer from back pain, wouldn't it be helpful to at least be able to sleep through the night? According to the Deutsche Schmerzgesellschaft e.V., up to 80 percent of all pain patients suffer from sleep disorders. This also includes those whose back pain is already chronic. At the same time, sleep deprivation and lack of sleep intensify one's own perception of pain. After a restless, non-restful night, the pain appears much stronger.

Orthopaedic mattresses that adapt to your body and provide optimal relief for your back can at least help you sleep better. Unfortunately, they cannot relieve you of the pain. But it is important that the mattress meets your personal requirements. To find out, a test sleep is a decisive factor.
